One of the aims of the 1951 UN Convention on Refugees was to illiminate the need for illegal immigration through international co-operation. As the number of deaths of fleeing immigrants increases and the trade in human smuggling becomes more widespread, it is clear that there needs to be a rethink of the problem. As yet, no nation has expressed an interest in reviewing the convention.
